Frequently Asked Questions

What is Biomass?

Is Wood and Green Waste low carbon?

The Carbon Dioxide CO2 emitted when wood products are burnt is the same amount that was absorbed over the growing cycle of the plant or tree, (a carbon nuetral process). Although there are some emissions associated with processing and transportation the 'carbon footprint' per tonne is still far lower that burning fossil fuels.

In CO2 emissions the Energy Saving Trust say that a wood boiler has significant savings up to 9.5 tonnes per year over a conventional solid (coal) fired system or electric storage hearing.

In many cases it can be a convenient method of diverting end of life wood products that were destined for landfill.

What are the benefits of green and wood waste?

In terms of installing and running costs bio-mass has the lowest capital cost of all the stablished renewalbe technologies and by investing in wood burning technology you are also helping to meet the UK's significant Carbon Reduction Commitment, (The aim of the scheme is to reduce the UK's CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050, compared to 1990 figures).
